District Grant Turalei Community Garden, South Sudan - Rotary Manningham in conjunction with Peace Palette Inc.

The Turalei Community Garden Project is located some 800km from the capital city of Juba (approximately 3 days travelling) in Warrap State close to the South Sudan / Sudan border. Turalei has a population of approximately 20,000 people, and the Nhomlau Children’s Shelter established by Peace Palette Inc. houses over 100 orphaned and abandoned street children aged 4 to 20. The Community Garden project is designed to be a self sustaining source of food for the Children’s Shelter and generate income of US$12,000 from the sale of surplus crop production to enable the Shelter to become self funding.
