At last Monday’s meeting we welcomed back Kira Olney to our club. Kira gave a very enlightening talk on her career and the impact that Group Study Exchange and her association with Manningham Rotary has had on her career, in what is an important and personally challenging area of policing. I hope to see Kira at more of our meetings in the future.
On Wednesday night we had the wrap-up of the Footy Tipping Contest. 3 of our members were present to hear from ABC television presenter Paul Kennedy who spoke in some detail about his career path and his love of footy. Paul also talked a bit about times in his life where he “went off the rails” (his words) and the effect this may have had regarding his opportunity to play footy at a higher level. After Paul’s talk we were given the results of the footy tipping. I can’t remember who the top three were, but it wasn’t anyone from Manningham.
Manningham however did excel at the Trivia contest that followed with Nick Wareham winning. Well done Nick. I won a bottle of wine and a scarf in the raffle. The raffle was conducted by Michael Mimmo (RC Templestowe) online with what I would say was spectacular success. This year’s footy tipping, raffle and the $10 donation for attending last Mondays meeting, raised $2,300 for the REAL organisation. https://realfriends.org.au/
This week we have a club forum which gives you the opportunity to comment on your Club’s performance and to put forward ideas regarding your Club’s activities. I hope to see all members at our Monday meeting.
I am looking forward to the wine tasting evening on Saturday night. Who would have thought we could have a social evening without physically getting together? As a bonus we will not have to worry about who is skipper or the whereabouts of the local constabulary! Thanks to Dean and Soula for organising this event. I hope that you are all well and staying safe. Kathy
