Associate Professor Renea Taylor and Dr Mitchell Lawrence are leaders of the Prostate Cancer Research Group at the Biomedicine Discovery Institute, Monash University. Renea is a teaching and research academic and Mitchell is a Senior Research Fellow who currently holds a mid-career award from the Victorian Cancer Agency. Together, they are highly regarded research scientists in the field of prostate cancer.
Their innovative research program has a strong translational approach, involving lab-based studies with tissues donated by patients with prostate cancer. Their collaborative studies with clinicians and patient advocates address questions that are relevant to patient care. The findings have the potential to improve the management and outcomes of men with different stages of prostate cancer. Recent studies have informed international guidelines for diagnosis of prostate cancer and led to new clinical trials.
